巴勃魯·聶魯達（1904～1973），原名內夫塔利·裏加爾多·雷耶斯·巴索阿爾托，智利當代著名詩人。生於帕拉爾城中的一個鐵路職工家庭。少年時代就喜愛寫詩並起筆名為聶魯達，16歲入聖地亞哥智利教育學院學習法語。1928年進入外交界任駐外領事、大使等職。1945年被選為國會議員，並獲智利國家文學獎。50年代，聶魯達再也不必靠外交官的薪水來維持生計了，他可以全身心地投入詩歌和政治作品的創作中。1965年，牛津大學授予他名譽學位。他曾是1969年智利大選的總統候選人，但為了支持人民陣線的候選人薩爾瓦多·阿連德，聶魯達退出了競選。1971年，聶魯達獲諾貝爾文學獎。
